( May 9, 2017, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday called on all members of the United National Party to prepare for future elections.
Addressing the UNP Working Committee Meeting at Sirikotha, Wickremesinghe had stressed the need to broadbase and modernise the party with youth being given more responsibilities, informed sources said.
The PM also urged the ministers to spend more time in their constituencies, look into the needs of the people and draw up development plans in consultation with them.
Emphasising that the UNP should be prepared for any election, the Prime Minister had said that all ministers and MPs should work hard to ensure the party’s victory with or without an electoral alliance.
He had pointed out that local and provincial polls were of the utmost importance, in the run up to national elections, sources said.
At the outset the Prime Minister had thanked the rank and file of the party for their contribution to holding successful May Day rallies in Colombo and other parts of the country.
